Glacier Climb, Sea Life Center and Mt Marathon

Exit glacier

Adam and I playing in the braided river below the Glacier - Pretty chilly!

Posing at the top of the climb

Thought this photo showed the cool blue color- made from the other colors being absorbed into the ice. Blue is the only one reflected back out. It is really pretty!

Alex and Connor climbing on the ice

Mark and Alex climbed up a little further to investigate another ledge

The trail up to the glacier wasnt so bad but then to get up to touch it got a little steep.

Beautiful star fish

Connor touching the slimy one!

Woody the 1700 pound Sea Lion

This photos shows the true side of the boys, IPOD TOUCH! If only Adam had his, the photo would be perfect.

A neat thing for Alex has been the Iditerod stuff.  They followed it in school this year so he has enjoyed seeing it in pers

The start of our Mt Marathon climb

We have had another couple of busy days. We spent Monday looking around Seward then went into the Kenai National Park to hike to the Exit glacier. It was really neat to get to see it up close and to get to be on it. Really sad to see how fast it is melting. Very eye opening.
Today we started out at the Sea Life Center and enjoyed most of the day there. It is an amazing place with lots to learn and see. Especially the animals there.
We then decided to give climbing Mt Marathon a try. It is a Seward yearly tradition that people run up, and then slide, glide, roll or run back down in a race on the 4th of July. It had been misting before we started out and after about an hour I made everyone turn around. It was so slick and so steep that I was afraid we would all slide down too. We gave it a shot and I am glad to say we all got back down in one piece!
We decided to start our journey to Homer Alaska this evening, and made it to Solvotna (sp?). It was another amazingly beautiful drive and the new site was the fishermen in the river. The Red salmon are starting to run and so the river was lined with fishermen. (Last photo)  Fun to get to see. I think we may have to give our fishing skills a test tomorrow!
